Our Curriculum

At Lochiel, our goal is to create a rich learning environment where every child can reach their full potential.

Our Commitment:

We provide:

  • A balanced program that empowers all students to achieve personal excellence, regardless of their circumstances.
  • A supportive learning environment that encourages enquiry, collaboration, and curiosity.
  • Child-centered classrooms that cater to students’ levels, interests, learning styles, and abilities.
  • A structured literacy approach and structured mathematics program, following a clear scope and sequence. Our teaching is explicit, cumulative, and sequential to ensure strong foundational learning.

Small School – Big Opportunities

ICT & Technology

Each classroom is equipped with an Apple TV and Chromebooks or iPads, and students are welcome to bring their own devices (BYOD).
Each term, Year 7 and 8 students spend a week at the Winton Technology Centre, gaining hands-on experience in cooking, hard materials, and textiles.

Sport

All students participate in a wide range of sporting activities through our physical education and sporting programs. Children compete in zone events including athletics and cross-country and take part in various sporting tournaments throughout the year.

Camps

Camps are for Years 6–8 students. Locations vary but include fantastic destinations such as Deep Cove, Stewart Island, and Borland Lodge. Camps give students the chance to explore new environments, develop social skills, and work collaboratively. Parental support is always high, and the experiences are thoroughly enjoyable.

Leadership

We foster leadership in our senior students, providing many opportunities and experiences for them to develop skills and confidence that will prepare them for the future.
